WrestleMania season is right around the corner and there’s been a lot of speculation regarding that the top matches will be at this year’s show. It had been rumored that WWE would be building toward another Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns match on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but it was recently reported that the match is off the table.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the way it was explained was that Triple H took another look at the planned direction for the Royal Rumble through WrestleMania and decided that spending months building to another Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns match would lead to audience fatigue.
According to the report Cody Rhodes brought up Drew McIntyre at the same time and asked for advice if it made sense, and if he would be more valuable chasing the title. Eventually the decision was made that it would be better for Cody to chase.
Multiple sources familiar with the situation noted that Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship win was decided within 48 hours of the match taking place, and the same is being said about the change in direction for WrestleMania.
Currently the two ideas for WrestleMania are for Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu to face off in a triple threat match for the title, or for Drew to face Cody in a singles match. It’s being said that Roman Reigns will be the odd man out of the title picture this year, and his direction will become more clear at the Royal Rumble.
