Drew McIntyre has been feuding with Cody Rhodes for months and he finally defeated Cody to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion on SmackDown after Jacob Fatu interfered in the main event.
Bodyslam is reporting that talent involved in the main event weren’t told of the direction for the finish until a few hours before the match. It’s also being reported that there were a few different pitches for the finish, but WWE ultimately went with Drew winning the Undisputed WWE Championship with the accidental help of Jacob Fatu.
It’s being said that WWE is looking to take a different approach on the road to WrestleMania. Drew McIntyre’s big title win opens up a few different stories heading into the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 42.
We’ll have to wait and see how things play out in the weeks to come as the Undisputed WWE Championship is set to be defended at the Royal Rumble and the following qualifying matches were announced on SmackDown:
– Randy Orton vs. The Miz
– Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams
– Damian Priest vs. Solo Sikoa
– Sami Zayn vs. Ilja Dragunov
The winner of each match will advance to a fatal four way match and the winner of the fatal four way will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble premium live event.
Stay tuned for updates.
