AJ Styles made his big debut with WWE back in 2016 and he’s been one of the top stars in the company for almost a decade. Years before he signed with WWE, AJ Styles was seen as the face of TNA Wrestling, and fans have often wondered if AJ could compete inside a Total Nonstop Action ring again someday now that the company has a partnership with WWE.
During a recent appearance on the No Contest Wrestling podcast The Phenomenal One talked about a potential return, but explained why it’s probably not going to happen.
“I get it, man. I really do. I was hoping that this would happen, I really was but then I realized it probably never could as far as WWE letting me do that. I’ll tell you why. As soon as I open those gates for the main roster talent, now everyone is going to want to do it. I don’t know if it’s going to happen, if I’m being honest. I’d like to, don’t get me wrong. What a moment it was when I was able to go back, but I just don’t see that match — I don’t see any match happening as of right now.”
AJ noted that he wishes he could compete in a match for TNA Wrestling when he added, “It’s NXT that has the partnership, not the main roster talent. Listen, I wish I could do it. I think I should be the only guy to do it, but that’s being very selfish. We’ll see what happens in the future, I don’t know necessarily. We’ll find out together.”
