John Cena’s retirement tour has been the talk of the wrestling world this year and as of this writing the former WWE Champion only has 7 appearances left. Cena has faced some interesting names over the last few months and there’s been a lot of speculation regarding who else he will step into the ring with before he retires for good.
Recently Rob Van Dam spoke with TMZ’s Inside The Ring about John Cena’s retirement tour and he revealed that he was in talks with WWE about a potential match. However, those plans went out the window after he broke his heels during a match at an independent wrestling event.
“I wanted to be one of the return matches for John Cena on his retirement tour. I was talking to them. There was a lot of interest. Without giving away too many details, you know, we were probably going to do it… and then I broke my heels.”
Rob Van Dam famously cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on John Cena at ECW One Night Stand in 2006 and he went on to win the WWE Championship when he defeated Cena. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing a rematch.
As of this writing the last remaining dates on John Cena’s retirement tour are as follows:
