Roman Reigns has been one of WWE’s top stars for years now and he’s seen the company go through a lot of changes. For much of Roman’s run at the top Vince McMahon was in charge of the company, but the former Chairman of the Board is no longer associated with WWE.
It was clear early on in Roman’s career that Vince McMahon saw something special in him, and he recently shared some advice that he received from Vince during an appearance on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon.
“[Anything that comes to mind?] Well, he was one of the first, and now it’s reversed on me, actually. He’d always tell me, and this was when I was so locked in at work that I wasn’t holding up my end on the other side, and he would just tell me, ‘You got to be present when you go home, you have to be present it doesn’t matter what you do out here, you have to be present,’ and I took that to heart so much and I’ve transformed that you know to being such a bigger part of my life, the main thing, the priority, A1, to where sometimes its the other way now.
Now, it’s hard not to be present when I am not home, when I am not with my children, because that’s where I really want to be, with my wife and my children, but those were just one of those funny lessons of just seeing what he is talking about and then seeing it evolve in my own life as a young man.
He’d always say, ‘You want to be ahead of the curve but not too far ahead of the curve.’ [Oh yeah, slightly ahead of the curve] slightly ahead of the curve [never too far ahead that people don’t understand what you are doing and certainly never behind] yep, and in just so many different ways, and especially in business that has just rung true, so yeah, those are two.”
Roman Reigns also shared his thoughts on wrestlers who slap their leg to make more noise during matches, and you can get more on that here.
