Over the weekend Vince McMahon celebrated his 80th birthday with a party in New York City and some familiar faces attended the event. Fightful Select is reporting that a number of WWE stars attended Vince McMahon’s birthday party including Undertaker, John Cena, JBL, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, and The Miz. WWE alumni Titus O’Neil and Maryse were also in attendance.
According to the report WWE talent who spoke on the subject weren’t surprised that there were so many WWE stars at the party. One talent who spent a lot of time working with Vince McMahon said, “a lot of people here still feel like they owe Vince something, even though he made his money back on them tenfold.”
Another talent who didn’t attend the party said a number of talent are waiting to see how the situation with the Janel Grant lawsuit plays out before severing ties, as that’s what they would want if the shoe happened to be on the other foot.
The intention was for the party to be kept private as no one spoke about the event until photos from the party started circulating online. People who wanted photos at the event were encouraged to be photographed by the professional photographer who was on scene. Jerry Lawler posted a photo of himself with Miz, Marsye, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus and Titus O’Neil, but he deleted the picture after he was asked to do so.
Fightful Select was told that there were a number of other current WWE stars at the birthday party, although no one would name who was in attendance. Many more claim they were invited but didn’t go, and others weren’t able to go due to WWE’s overseas tour. The consensus among people who didn’t attend was that Vince McMahon would have fired them and cut ties if they were accused of the same thing he was accused of.
Another person noted that it was the first time they had seen him in years, and Vince “looked 80.” It was also noted that he seemed frail, and walked slower.
Bryan Danielson was not in attendance nor was Triple H, Stephanie McMahon or Nick Khan, and there was no official WWE involvement. Talent who asked if they could, or should attend were reportedly that by a WWE higher up that it was their business.
At this point in time there’s been no talk of Vince McMahon returning to WWE. Sources at the top of the company have claimed that is no desire to bring him back, and there have been no discussions regarding creative plans for Vince in any capacity.
