They say that anything can happen in the WWE and SummerSlam featured some unexpected moments. During the night 1 main event Gunther defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk and Gunther’s nose got busted open at one point after Punk grabbed his leg which caused him to fall face first onto the announce table.
Ahead of the show it was reported that Gunther was dealing with a nose issue that might require him to take time off. This week on Monday Night Raw, Michael Cole announced that Gunther suffered a septal hematoma, and an orbital blowout fracture at SummerSlam. Cole then announced that Gunther will be out of action indefinitely.
Recently Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told that Gunther is set to undergo surgery on his nose. It was also noted that the busted nose spot during the match with CM Punk was 100% planned.
Ultimately CM Punk ended up defeating Gunther to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Unfortunately for Punk his reign didn’t last long as Seth Rollins successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract immediately after the main event.
As of right now there’s currently no word on when Gunther could be back in action.
