Cody Rhodes challenged John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of WWE SummerSlam on Sunday night and it was Cody Rhodes who walked out with the gold. The match was action packed and Cena and Cody took each other to the limit in a brutal street fight. Throughout the main event John Cena hit Cody with the Attitude Adjustment several times only for Cody to kick out, and Cena also kicked out of the Cross Rhodes several times.

The end of the match came when The American Nightmare grabbed the WWE Championship belt and brought it into the ring. He charged at Cena as Cena stood up. John dodged the belt shot and connected with the Attitude Adjustment. He threw the belt out of the ring and put Cody on the top rope. Cena connected with the Avalanche Attitude Adjustment off the ropes, but Cody managed to kick out.

John Cena grabbed a table and set it up in the ring. He put Cody back on the top rope and went for another Avalanche AA, but Cody got out of it and put Cena through the table with a Cody Cutter off the top.

While Cena was struggling to get up Cody saluted him then connected with the Cross Rhodes again to win the match. After the match Cena handed the belt to Cody and hugged him. Cody then left John alone in the ring as the fans chanted “thank you Cena.”

As Cena was soaking up the moment with the fans Brock Lesnar’s music hit and Brock walked down the ramp. The Beast Incarnate stared John Cena down then took off his vest. Brock got in the ring then hit Cena with the F5 to end the show. This was Brock Lesnar’s first appearance on WWE programming since he was defeated by Cody Rhodes at the SummerSlam premium live event in 2023.
