Back in 2014, WWE officially introduced the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30. Since then the match has typically taken place every year during WrestleMania weekend. However, there was no Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in 2020.
During a recent episode of Poddin’ Ain’t Easy, The Godfather revealed that he was originally set to compete in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in 2020, but plans for his in-ring return were canceled due to the pandemic.
“When COVID hit, I agreed to come out to that [Andrè The Giant Memorial Battle Royal] and that was going to be — I was going to come out as Kama, get eliminated, then I was gonna come back as Godfather, get eliminated, and then I was gonna … I don’t even remember what, I know that the last thing was Papa Shango and the lights were gonna go out and everybody, whoever was left, [laughs in character], and COVID hit and they didn’t do it.”
The Godfather also confirmed that he’s still under contract with WWE, and he teased that he could potentially make an appearance on WWE programming at some point in the future when Raw moves to Netflix.
