There was a lot of anticipation heading into The New Day’s 10 year anniversary celebration on Monday Night Raw this week as WWE had seemingly been teasing the idea of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods going their separate ways.
Big E made his return and offered to be their manager, but Woods and Kingston turned on the former WWE Champion as they accused him of choosing his new life over them.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that The New Day heel turn had been planned for months. Originally when Odyssey Jones was brought into the storyline the idea was to tease that there were issues with The New Day not getting along.
The tease would then lead to Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turning heel by choosing Odyssey Jones over Big E and making him Big E’s replacement in The New Day. However, those plans had to be put on hold because Odyssey Jones got fired.
