Last year Adam Copeland officially finished up his run with WWE when he defeated Sheamus during an episode of SmackDown in Toronto. Copeland then went on to make his debut with AEW at the WrestleDream pay-per-view and he’s been a member of the roster ever since.
Unfortunately wrestling fans haven’t seen much of Adam Copeland on AEW programming as of late because Copeland suffered a fractured tibia during his match with Malakai Black at Double or Nothing back in May, but it sounds like he’s getting closer to a return.
PWInsider is reporting that Adam Copeland has been cleared for physicality, but he’s not expected to be back with AEW on a regular basis until filming wraps up for the second season of Percy Jackson. Hollywood sources have indicated that filming for the second season is expected to finish up in January.
Over the weekend Tony Khan commented on Adam Copeland’s AEW status during the Full Gear post-show press conference when he said, “We’ve been missing him very, very much. He was doing so great this year for us as the TNT Champion. We really missed the ‘Rated-R Superstar’ so much, and I can’t wait to hopefully get him back at some point in the near future. It was really a devastating thing, but we’re very blessed to have such a great roster in AEW because everybody really stepped up. When you lose somebody so valuable to the team like Adam Copeland, it’s always going to hurt.
As soon as we can get him back, it’s going to make a huge positive difference to have Adam back on this team. We really missed the ‘Rated-R Superstar,’ and it was one of those really hard things that happened at the MGM Grand at Double or Nothing when we temporarily lost Adam from the roster. Whenever he gets back, we’re going to be so excited.”
