Everyone loves a surprise appearance during a wrestling match as they can often make for exciting moments. One way to make those big moments happen is to hide a wrestler underneath the ring, so that they can be ready to appear at any time.
Recently Raj Dhesi (formerly known as Jinder Mahal in WWE) appeared on Maven’s YouTube channel and he shared some insight into how wrestlers get under the ring without anyone noticing.
“When we’re in a commercial break, in this case, it is a PPV, so maybe when there is a video package playing, all the lights in the arena go dark. Throughout the night, the ring crew is coming out to change something, generally you can sneak under there without anybody noticing. I’ve done that a bunch of times.”
“Underneath the ring, it is called a bed. There is a little mat there, and there is a gentleman by the name of Nick Daw who is under there with a monitor. They have got water bottles down there, they’ve got diet Cokes, Red Bulls. So you have your bed, you’ve got your monitor, and Nick actually has a headset to the producers.”
Jinder Mahal first signed with WWE in 2010 and continued to work with the company until he was released in 2014. He went on to make his return in 2016 for a second run during which he managed to win the WWE Championship and the WWE United States Championship. Mahal was released from WWE earlier this year, but is still actively wrestling for various promotions.
