The WWE roster gave fans plenty to talk about in 2023, and many people were talking about Gunther’s historic Intercontinental Championship reign. The Ring General took on some tough challengers throughout the year and he managed to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.
During the 12/18 episode of Monday Night Raw, Gunther successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against The Miz. After the match Gunther told the rest of Imperium that he would be taking time off.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the real reason Gunther took time off was to be with his wife Jinny as they welcomed their first child into the world.
“The reason Gunther said he was taking time off to be refreshed is actually because his wife, the former pro wrestler Jinny, gave birth to a boy on 12/27”
There’s currently no word on what WWE has in store for Gunther in the months to come, but now that he has defeated The Miz once again it seems that a new challenger will have to step up.
