John Cena is no stranger to holding championships in the WWE…
I know that is a huge understatement but let’s look at the Good and the Bad of the Cenation leader when it comes to his Hell in a Cell title shot.
Will he win the belt? Should he win the belt?
Let’s talk about it.
GOOD: It’s a sad state when you look at the World Heavyweight Championship as a second rate title but that is exactly the current state of this once great prize. It’s a tough pill to swallow for Cena haters but even they have to admit that he would bring instant credibility back to the stale title that has been held by a who’s who of legendary superstars. I’m not saying that it’s Alberto Del Rios fault but he hasn’t exactly given the WHC a top bill feel. A lot of this falls on WWE creative with their lack of story telling around this strap. Cena doesn’t need a story, he’s the biggest name in the company so the title will instantly be showcased on all WWE programming and with the countless interviews Cena does to promote the company it will also get face time to a large audience that maybe doesn’t tune in to WWE.
BAD: With the title in its current situation it would be a perfect time to put it on some talent that could use the boost without hurting the title. Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle with an up and coming superstar who would make the title an attraction. Cena doesn’t need it. He’s already a well known commodity in the wrestling community for good or bad. Him in the title hunt instantly stonewalls the likes of a Dolph Ziggler who has held the title but yet to really have a run worth mentioning. When/if the strap goes to Cena it would be unlikely to leave his waist for quite some time. It’s just what he does.
GOOD: Let’s say Cena doesn’t win the WHC at Hell in a CELL, Alberto Del Rio is in dire need of a title defense over someone of the caliber of John Cena. Del Rio could be a credible champion if he starts to pick up more title defenses over the upper echelon of the WWE roster. With Cena coming off elbow surgery it sets up perfectly for Del Rio to beat down Cena and prep him for his cross-arm breaker. Cena won’t tap but he could pull a Stone Cold and pass out from the pain. If this is the course they decide to take it very well could bring ADR and the WHC to another level. The WHC would instantly seem like a title worth grabbing because if Cena couldn’t capture it just imagine the pop whoever does beat ADR will receive.
BAD: It’s John Flippin Cena. I believe that’s a good enough reason.
GOOD: If Cena holds the resident “SmackDown” title it really could be best for business. Let’s face facts the age demographic that watches Smackdown is a younger audience which is Cena’s demo. SmackDown could use the boost no doubt and what one superstar could do that? The owner of the Five Knuckle Shuffle. SmackDown much like the WHC has been in a bit of a funk as of late. Cena just appearing on Smackdown will raise the ratings for sure.
BAD: It’s JOHN FLIPPIN CENA!!! Seriously, Ric Flairs record isn’t out of reach for Cena. Sad Face.
