Edge wrestled the last match on his WWE contract back in August and as of September 30 he is now a free agent. There’s been a lot of talk about Edge possibly joining AEW with some speculation that he could be appearing at WrestleDream tonight.
Fightful Select reports that well before Edge became a free agent there was a ton of talent in both AEW and WWE who believed that Edge would be joining AEW when his contract expired. There were AEW wrestlers saying they heard Edge was coming in way back in mid-August before he even wrestled his last match for WWE. A veteran WWE talent also said that it was a “lock” Edge would be joining AEW.
The Rated R Superstar was removed from WWE’s internal roster, but he is still listed as a member of the SmackDown roster on WWE.com. It was noted that those pages are often not updated until someone releases a public statement.
A source noted that they do not believe WWE owns the rights to “Metalingus” by Alter Bridge which Edge used as his entrance theme in WWE. However, the “You Think You Know Me” sample that appears at the beginning was created in WWE, but could be re-recorded. One source also noted that if Edge wanted to use almost any Alter Bridge song they’d probably all work it out so that it happens.
