This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite aired live from Arthur Ashe Stadium, and some big matches were featured on the annual Grand Slam edition of the show. AEW Grand Slam kicked off in a big way as ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli faced off against NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston with both titles on the line.

The match was aggressive as soon as the bell kicked off and the fans in attendance made it clear that they were behind Eddie Kingston. At one point Claudio and Eddie were battling on the apron and Claudio hit Eddie with a backdrop suplex to the outside onto the ramp. Eddie sold the damage from the move as Claudio got the upper hand.

Eventually Eddie made a comeback and started to chop Claudio on his chest, but Claudio no sold it. Eddie then punched Claudio on the jaw which finally knocked him down.

Eddie hit Claudio with the uraken three times followed by the Northern Lights Bomb. It was enough as Claudio kicked out, but Eddie followed up with a powerbomb then pinned Claudio Castagnoli to win the ROH World Championship to a big pop from the fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

After the match Claudio extended his hand and Eddie accepted. They shook hands then Claudio exited the ring while Edde Kingston celebrated with both of his belts.
