Professional wrestling certainly isn’t ballet and although some may try, no one can wrestle forever. It’s not uncommon for wrestlers to move into coaching roles after returning from in-ring competition and it seems that Oney Lorcan has done just that.
WWE head coach Matt Bloom recently appeared on Real Radio Monsters and while he was praising his staff he casually mentioned that Oney Lorcan has indeed retired from being in the ring.
“My position now as a head coach, I oversee my coaches. I have an amazing staff, so I gotta give props to those guys. Terry Taylor, Fit Finlay, Robbie Brookside, Norman Smiley, Steve Corino, Alexander Winkler, ‘Oney Lorcan’ Chris Girard, who just recently retired from being in the ring, Johnny Moss, and we have a few UK coaches that are on the cusp of being full-time coaches as well.”
Oney Lorcan, real name Christopher Girard, wrestled on the independent scene for years before signing a developmental deal with WWE in 2015. He went on to win the NXT Tag Team Championship with Danny Burch, but was released from the company in November of 2021. It was reported in October of 2022 that he had returned to the WWE Performance Center to work as a coach.
