On Monday Night Raw fans saw Cody Rhodes come face to face with Paul Heyman, and the two WWE stars managed to cut a promo that caught the attention of the wrestling world.
Fightful Select reports that the promo managed to benefit from WWE’s looser scripting since Vince McMahon stepped down from creative. People close to Paul Heyman noted that some of the promo caught him by surprise. Those close to Cody Rhodes stated that they weren’t sure if it was ever communicated to Paul Heyman just how important Dusty Rhodes getting booked in ECW was to the Rhodes family. According to people who were familiar with the inner workings of the promo Paul Heyman wrote his part, and Cody Rhodes wrote his part. It just happened to come together perfectly.
The talent involved were said to be very happy with the promo. Higher ups and WWE officials were thrilled with not just the content of the promo, but also the fan reception to it.
One WWE higher up added that Cody is a star and Heyman is a star maker. It was said that they were both in a difficult position, but the belief is that they took something that seemed like a manufactured booking decision and made it look personal.
