Tuesday was tragic for the world of professional wrestling as it was revealed that former ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe passed away in a car accident at the age of 38. The wrestling community is processing the loss and it sounds like some changes were made to last night’s NXT broadcast.
Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that originally a segment was planned for NXT where The New Day would hold a funeral for Pretty Deadly’s title shot. However, WWE decided to change plans when word of Briscoe’s passing started making the rounds. This explains why The New Day showed up wearing formal attire on NXT this week.
There was a planned NXT segment tonight where New Day would hold a “funeral” for Pretty Deadly’s title shot. When word of Jay Briscoe’s passing emerged, New Day and Shawn Michaels nixed the segment, and Michaels added the Vic Joseph tribute of Briscoe to the show.”

During the show Vic Joseph acknowledged the passing of Jay Briscoe when he said, “We were just informed of tragic news inside the wrestling community that Jay Briscoe has passed away,” Joseph said. “We want to take this moment to send our condolences to his friends and family.”
Our condolences go out to Jay Briscoe’s family, friends and fans.
