Back in May, The Usos and RK-Bro faced off in a tag title unification match and when it was all said and done it was The Usos who walked out with both sets of belts. Randy Orton has been out of action ever since due to injury, and it’s not clear when he could be back.
The Usos have been WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions for months now, but recently WWE has been teasing that the belts will be split again. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that originally WWE planned to keep the Raw Tag Team Titles on RK-Bro. However, due to Randy Orton’s injury WWE just decided to let The Usos unify the belts.
“The tag titles were not going to be unified, and then… that’s when Randy Orton’s career almost ended. They just figured Riddle and Orton were just gonna stay as the Raw champions, but there was gonna be no more Orton, he pretty much finished up after losing that title. So without Riddle and Orton, RK-Bro who were a hot team, they just went with the Usos to hold both belts.”
A few months ago Randy Orton underwent back fusion surgery and there’s currently no timetable for his return. As for The Usos, they will be defending the Raw Tag Team Titles against The Judgment Day next week on the Raw 30th anniversary episode. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
