The WWE premium live event schedule has changed quite a bit over the last few decades, but for years King of the Ring was a mainstay on WWE programming. It’s been rumored that King of the Ring could be returning, and it looks like the tournament could be going back to its roots.

WrestleVotes recently spoke to GiveMeSport about the possibility of King of the Ring returning, and it was noted that if it is brought back it will likely be a premium live event that focuses on a one night tournament.

“There’s a very good chance that King of the Ring is back, and likely back in the format that had happened in the late 80s. The idea is that every single match will happen that night.

In the 90s, a lot of the matches happened on Superstars and Raw, with the semi finals and finals on pay-per-view. If it’s going to come back on pay-per-view, which I would say is probably going to happen, you’re going to have a full-on one-night tournament.

I mean, tournament wrestling is old school wrestling, and Hunter loves old school wrestling. If it still makes sense, especially when you have 500 people on the roster, you can do it. That’s what they’re going to do.”

The last King of the Ring tournament took place in 2021 and it was won by Xavier Woods who defeated Finn Balor in the finals at Crown Jewel. Do you think WWE should bring King of the Ring back? Sound off in the comments below.
