For a period of time in 2019, Erick Rowan started carrying around a covered cage which contained a mystery pet. Everyone tried to guess what the mystery pet could be, and eventually it was revealed to be a large mechanical spider.
Ultimately the spider was destroyed by Drew McIntyre, but that wasn’t the original plan. Erick Rowan recently appeared on NBC Sports Boston’s Ten Count podcast and he revealed that the mystery animal was supposed to be a rat.
“Seth Rollins was the big babyface at the time, and I was told, ‘Hey, it’s going to be a pet rat,’ which was great because it tied into my last feud where I tried to kill a man, being Roman Reigns, with a vehicle.”
According to Rowan, the idea was for Seth Rollins to accidentally stomp the pet rat backstage which would have led to a feud between him and Rollins. However, plans were seemingly changed due to Seth Rollins turning heel.
Erick Rowan was released in April of 2020 due to budget cuts and he has since gone on to wrestle on the independent scene. He’s also made a few appearances on AEW programming.
