Pete Dunne has spent the last few years trying to make a name for himself in WWE, but the former NXT UK Champion was recently reintroduced to the world as Butch when he was called up to SmackDown and paired with Sheamus & Ridge Holland.
The name change has been getting a lot of attention recently, and during an appearance on The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling former WWE star Bull James revealed that at one point Bill DeMott was pushing for him to be named Butch.
“There’s all this uproar about Pete Dunne being Butch. Butch was one of the names I put on my list, thinking, ‘Oh, they’ll never use this,’ but not realizing that Bill DeMott’s nickname for his son was Butch, so he loved it. He kept trying to get me, like, ‘Oh, I think you should be Butch.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t wanna be Butch! Please don’t make me Butch.’”
Bull James went on to become Bull Dempsey in NXT, so luckily for him he didn’t have to take on the name, but he doesn’t seem to think that the change is going to hold Pete Dunne back.
“It’s funny that Pete has it now. He’s so talented, man, that a name is not gonna hold him back. He’s awesome.”
