You never know when a WWE Superstar will get a new gimmick as fans saw last week when former NXT UK Champion Pete Dunne debuted on Friday Night SmackDown as Butch.
It’s been a long time since fans have seen Elias on WWE programming, but Fightful Select reports that vignettes had been filmed for him, and he had been tentatively slated for a return to Monday Night Raw.
However, it’s also being said that “doesn’t really mean anything until firm plans are set.” A name change was also reportedly pitched for Elias, but it’s not known if WWE plans to go through with it, or what his new name could be.
Elias has not appeared on WWE programming in some time as he disappeared last year after losing a feud with Jaxson Ryker. WWE started airing vignettes teasing a new gimmick saying that Elias was “dead” but nothing came of it. Originally Elias was set to return with trunks and a new look that was seen in WWE 2K22 reference photos, but the plan was nixed because Vince McMahon thought he looked too much like Randy Savage.
