It’s been an interesting few weeks for major championships in WWE as Roman Reigns recently became the longest reigning Universal Champion of all time, and Brock Lesnar recently dropped the WWE Title to Bobby Lashley at the Royal Rumble. Brock went on to win the Royal Rumble, and he has declared that he will be facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
It was noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the feeling in creative is that Vince McMahon will make the call to go with a title vs. title match for WrestleMania which is why Brock Lesnar was put in the Elimination Chamber match. Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar have also been pushing for the match internally.
It’s being said that the course for the titles at WrestleMania is now set, and there are a number of twists and turns to come that will play out at Elimination Chamber. The feeling is that Vince McMahon was leaning toward title vs. title which means whatever the company had originally planned for the WWE Title match at Mania has now been nixed.
The plan is to book Reigns and Lesnar as strong possible with the idea that their bout at WrestleMania is a dream match. It’s felt that the title vs. title stipulation is needed to make the match as big as possible because Reigns and Lesnar have faced off before.
Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
