On Sunday night the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view aired on Peacock and WWE Network, and fans saw quite a few title matches take place on the show.
Roman Reigns defended his Universal Championship against Cesaro in the main event, and the two SmackDown stars went to war in a long match. Ultimately it was Reigns who picked up the win and walked out with the title.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the original plan was for Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman for the WWE Championship to main event WrestleMania Backlash.
However, on the day of the show there was a push to make a change with the idea being that Roman Reigns is only franchise player on the roster, and that he should only go first or last.
With the idea being that Reigns and Cesaro were set to have a long match there was some discussion that the audience might be flat if the triple threat match had to follow the Universal Title match.
