For many years fans thought they would never see Sting in WWE, then the impossible happened when the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion made his debut at Survivor Series in 2014.
Sting went on to wrestle only a few matches in WWE before he was forced to retire. The Icon was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen him on WWE programming.
Now Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that Sting is no longer under contract with WWE. It’s being said that just because Sting isn’t under contract that doesn’t mean the two sides won’t work out a merchandising deal in the future.
Speculation regarding the Hall of Famer’s status went into overdrive recently after he was pulled from a series of WWE action figures and Mattel issued the following statement:
“Due to circumstances out of our control Sting needed to be removed from Legends Series 7. We’ll look to include this figure in a future wave if he becomes available to us again.”
There’s also been speculation about Sting possibly working with AEW in some fashion after he mentioned AEW on Twitter recently, and Cody Rhodes seemingly showed interest.
