Shane McMahon is set to face off against The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 32. If Shane wins he gets control of Raw and if The Undertaker defeats him Shane loses his inheritance.
There’s a lot on the line in this match and the stakes are high. Out of all the matches WWE has announced for WrestleMania 32 so far this is the one people are talking about the most. This match is going to be a spectacle and it’s likely we’re going to see a few surprises along the way. Let’s take a look at 7 surprises that could take Shane McMahon vs The Undertaker to the next level.
#7 – Stephanie McMahon Reveals That She’s The One Who Brought Shane Back
Triple H and Stephanie are two of the most powerful people in the WWE, but Vince McMahon still calls the shots. Triple H and Stephanie have been ruling the WWE with an iron fist for the past few years and every once in a while Vince steps in when he feels he’s needed.
Shane McMahon has returned to take control of Raw, and at some point, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H are going to want to take complete control of the WWE. Could it be possible that the McMahon siblings are working together?
It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve pulled a fast one on their father. Shane and Stephanie previously tried to take the company from him during the invasion in 2001. But as we all know, they didn’t get it right the first time, and McMahons are stubborn. It’s always possible that Shane and Stephanie could be looking to redeem themselves for their past failures.
How likely is it to happen?: 8/10
The McMahons are schemers, that’s what they do, they scheme. Will Stephanie reveal that she was secretly the one that brought Shane back? Maybe. Maybe not. But when it comes to the McMahon family all conspiracy theories should be treated as possibilities.
#6 – Shane McMahon Wins And Appoints Someone Else As The New Raw GM
Shane McMahon is back and he’s promising big changes for Raw if he wins his match at WrestleMania. However, Shane’s future with WWE following WrestleMania 32 is uncertain. He hasn’t been announced for any post-WrestleMania events which would seem to indicate that he won’t be winning his match because he won’t be around to run the show. Unless of course, he wins his match and hires somebody else to run the show.
Shane doesn’t have to return full time to make big changes. There are plenty of people out there who could be the Raw General Manager while he’s away. Guys like John Cena, Randy Orton or Daniel Bryan could easily bring new life to the role of the authority figure. There are also plenty of former stars that could return and work the role. Eric Bischoff, Mick Foley, Lita and Sting are just a few of the names that could be brought back into the fold.
One way or another, WWE could use a fresh face in the role of the authority figure. Triple H and Stephanie have been filling that position for years and it’s time for a change. Shane McMahon winning his match then appointing a new Raw General Manager would be a nice way to end The Authority era on Monday nights.
How likely is it that this will happen?: 7/10
It’s not out of the question for this to happen if Shane McMahon does win his match. Working with WWE full time is a huge commitment and it remains to be seen if it’s a commitment Shane McMahon wants to make again. With that being said, WWE usually likes to switch things up after WrestleMania and The Authority thing ran its course a while ago.
#5 – The Mean Street Posse Returns
Gotta be honest here, don’t have much to say about this one other than we just really want to see the Mean Street Posse return. Let’s get real, who wouldn’t pop for a double chokeslam on Pete Gas and Joey Abs courtesy of The Undertaker? That’s a WrestleMania moment right there for sure.
How likely is it to happen?: 4/10
We’re going with the old 4 out of 10 on this one. Although we would love to see it happen, we don’t think WWE is going to recruit the Posse for one last run in just to get the nostalgia pop. But you never know.
#4 – CM Punk Returns
Ever since CM Punk parted ways with WWE wrestling fans have been creating conspiracy theories about how the whole thing is a work. Well, if it is a work (it’s not) WrestleMania 32 would be the perfect time to pull back the curtain and expose the whole thing.
This isn’t going to happen, but seeing CM Punk return to help Shane McMahon take control of WWE would be a fitting end to the CM Punk/WWE saga. Back in 2011 CM Punk fought for change in the WWE and here we are watching Shane McMahon do the same thing in 2016. CM Punk wanted Vince, Triple H and Stephanie out of power, and so does Shane. The alliance would make perfect sense, if only it were possible.
How likely is it that this will happen?: 0/10
It’s just not going to happen.
#3 – Legends Get Involved In An Attempt To Tip The Scales
It’s been rumored that at this year’s WrestleMania a group of legends will be doing a run in similar to the DX/NWO run in at WrestleMania 31. If WWE is going to do a run in segment involving former stars, it would make the most sense to do it in this match.
It’s only natural that some of WWE’s legends would choose a side when it comes to who rules the company. A legend such as Shawn Michaels would likely be more loyal to Vince McMahon whereas a legend such as Steve Austin would likely oppose Vince McMahon etc. etc.
There’s a lot on the line here in regards to WWE’s future so there’s little doubt that the stars of WWE’s past will have something to say about it.
How likely is this to happen?: 9/10
It’s already been confirmed that WWE will have several legends in the building and it’s been rumored that WWE plans to use some unnamed legends for a run in. No other match on the card so far really seems like a good fit for a run in with the exception of this one.
#2 – Shane McMahon Forms An Alliance With The Wyatt Family Similar To The Corporate Ministry
Shane McMahon knows a thing or two about how to lead a faction. He was the leader of The Corporate Ministry and one of the leaders of The Alliance. The point is, Shane McMahon is a master manipulator just like his dear old dad. It’s not at all out of the question to think he would recruit The Wyatt Family to be his insurance policy at WrestleMania.
Bray Wyatt recently said in one of his cryptic promos that he knows something we don’t know about WrestleMania 32. It’s also rumored that Bray will likely be positioned as a top heel following WrestleMania. Having him join forces with Shane McMahon to take out his rival The Undertaker would certainly go a long way in helping him regain some of the momentum he’s lost.
How likely is it that this will happen?: 6/10
We’re giving this one a solid 6 out of 10 because it seems unlikely, but it’s wrestling and you can never say never. All likelihood aside, it would be a pretty awesome twist.
#1 – Vince McMahon Reveals Himself To Be The Higher Power….Again
“It was me Stephanie, it was me all along!”
If there’s one thing Vince McMahon loves more than money, it’s power. Over the past few years Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have been gaining more and more power in the WWE. They’ve essentially been running the show as The Authority while Vince’s grasp on the company starts to slip away from him.
It’s always possible that Vince has just been biding his time, waiting for the right moment to take full control of the WWE once again. As we’ve seen in the past, things are never what they appear to be with the McMahon family. There’s usually some sort of twist or some other story going on beneath the surface.
Back during The Attitude Era, Vince McMahon put together an elaborate plan where he put himself at odds with The Undertaker, Shane McMahon and The Ministry of Darkness. The Ministry of Darkness wreaked havoc on the WWE and even kidnapped his daughter Stephanie. But Vince later revealed that he was the “higher power” behind it all. Could history be repeating itself?
It’s not out of the question to think that Shane and Vince could be working together to remove Stephanie and Triple H from their positions of power. And it’s certainly not out of the question to think that Vince would turn on the guy that he’s backing heading into Mania. He turned The Rock at WrestleMania 16, there’s no reason to believe he won’t turn on The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32.
How likely is this to happen?: 8/10
All jokes about the whole “higher power” thing aside we’re going with an 8 out of 10 on the likelihood scale for a scenario similar to this one. The idea of Shane and Vince having a secret alliance is something that’s always in play. It’s like John Cena’s hurricanrana. He may not bust it out every match, but you know it’s there just lurking in his arsenal, waiting to be utilized.
