Jim Ross is without question the greatest professional wrestling commentator of all time.
Jim Ross has provided wrestling fans with quotable commentary for many different eras and sadly as of yesterday he is now officially retired. It’s a shame to know that Jim Ross won’t be sitting in on commentary for any WWE television show ever again and as a fan I don’t understand how WWE can let JR go so easily. This man is a true diamond in the rough as his commentary skills are unmatched by anyone in the industry.
No one can get you emotionally invested in a match the way Jim Ross can and ever since he’s left the commentary booth fans have been begging for him to return. It seems as if those cries will now fall on deaf ears as the WWE makes a horrible mistake and parts ways with Jim Ross.
It’s sad to see him go but luckily JR is walking away from one hell of a career. When it comes to the list of great matches JR has called in his day that list goes on and on for days. Jim Ross used his commentary to take a match from memorable to unforgettable and we can’t thank him enough for that. We wish Jim Ross all the best in whatever he pursues after life in WWE and hope that somewhere he knows that there will truly never be anyone better.
With that being said let’s take a look at 7 of JR’s finest moments.
1. Hell In A Cell
When The Undertaker faced Mankind at King of the Ring in a Hell in a Cell match they truly made history. Watching Mick Foley put his body through absolute hell was an emotional experience for the viewer and it was only made that much more intense thanks to some superior work by Jim Ross. You can’t watch this match and not get worried as far as Mick Foley’s health is concerned and JR does a great job at selling how determined Foley is to stay in this match. This match has some of the biggest bumps of all time and it would be hard to imagine what it would have been like without the patented JR “Oh my god!”
2. Stone Cold VS The Rock WrestleMania X-7
[youtube_sc url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM8kNZfv3cU”]
This match is what many consider to be the pinnacle of The Attitude Era. Two of the most popular stars ever facing each other for the title at WrestleMania how could it get any bigger? Oh well it can always get bigger when you add Jim Ross to the mix. Here Jim provides us with some unforgettable commentary around the 30 min mark and expresses how shocked he is to see Stone Cold Steve Austin align himself with Vince McMahon. We were all shocked at this moment and no one knew what to say but luckily JR said it for us.
3. Eric Bischoff is a Son of a Bitch!
Jim Ross and Eric Bischoff worked together for many years during JR’s long career and sometimes they got along but sometimes they didn’t. Here as you can see Jim Ross is VERY pissed off due to an incident involving Stone Cold Steve Austin and Eric Bischoff. It’s a good thing Eric wasn’t anywhere close to the announce booth at this time because JR looks like he was about to open up a can of whoop ass on Sleazy E.
4. Skittles! Skittles!
Who doesn’t go crazy for Skittles every now and again? As JR will tell you here Skittles are “Delicious! Delicious!”
5. HBK VS The Undertaker

Jim Ross always had that special something about his commentary that could take a great match to The next level. When it came time for WrestleMania 25 and Shawn Michaels was booked to face The Undertaker it was very obvious that we were in for a great match and one that would need great commentary. Once again Jim Ross saved the day by giving us some memorable commentary that is at times just as entertaining as this epic match, proving once again why JR was the best in the business.
6. Chokeslam To Hell
This one is short and sweet because Jim Ross’ reaction when The Big Show chokeslams The Undertaker through the ring is priceless. This chokeslam straight to hell is meant to look devastating and JR totally sells it. It’s the intensity that Jim Ross is able to bring to any moment with just a few choice words that we will miss the most.
7. There’s People In There!
[youtube_sc url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y_U91hlYdk”]
This is another classic example of JR selling a brutal beating and making it unforgettable. After Cactus Jack faced Chainsaw Charlie in a match The New Age Outlaws decided that they would take out the trash by throwing them in a dumpster and pushing them off the stage. As you could imagine the very sight of this is actually pretty devastating but no one is more devastated than Jim Ross himself.
