It’s always big risk when a WWE Superstar tries to turn heel. It’s also a big risk when a WWE Superstar tries to turn face. But with big risks come big rewards and in the world of professional wrestling sometimes change can be a good thing.
Sometimes when a WWE Superstar decides to make a change and take on a different persona it can catapult them into the main event and even turn them into a household name. But in order for a character change to work, the timing has to be right. There are certain members of the WWE roster that are overdue for a change, and these are 6 names that we think need to make the switch from heel to face or vice versa.
#6 – The Wyatt Family – Face
The Wyatt Family have been on the main roster for a few years now and they’ve been playing the heel role the whole time. But it’s time guys, it’s time for The Wyatt Family to turn face.
When it comes to The Wyatt Family nothing about them needs to be changed. The fans already want to cheer for The Wyatt Family so all WWE has to do is put them in feuds with other teams that are clearly established as heels.
There were hints of a possible face turn on Raw this week when The Wyatts attacked Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Rusev. If a Wyatt Family face run has any chance of working, WWE needs to place them in a situation where people will cheer for them. A feud with The League of Nations is a great place to start.
#5 – Damien Sandow – Heel
Damien Sandow is a wrestler that knows how to get a reaction out of the fans but he’s rarely seen on WWE programming. WWE is always in need of more heels and Damien Sandow is in need of TV time. Perhaps it’s time for the two sides to make a mutually beneficial arrangement
Sandow was one of the most popular guys in the company this time last year but he’s completely fallen of the map since then. The fans love Sandow but WWE doesn’t seem to be all that interested in using him as a babyface. In the past Damien Sandow has proved that he generate legitimate boos as a bad guy, so why not have him turn heel again.
At the end of the day Damien Sandow is good in just about any role he plays. It doesn’t matter if he’s playing a heel, a face or even Vince McMahon himself, Sandow owns it. Quite simply put, it’s a disservice to the audience not to have him on TV and if a heel turn is what it takes to get him some screen time, then it’s time to pull the trigger.
#4 – Paige – Heel
Paige has done such an awesome job building the WWE Women’s division back up over the past few years, but she hasn’t been given anything fun to do lately. Paige helped kick off the Divas Revolution on the main roster and now that it’s finally paying off she’s not even a part of it.
Remember back in the fall of 2015 when Team PCB broke up? Paige turned heel and she looked like she was going to be the break out star of the group, but things quickly cooled off for Paige when WWE turned Charlotte instead. Charlotte has been doing a great job as the top heel in the women’s division. But compared to Charlotte, Paige is a different type of villain and there’s room for her at the top as well.
Paige is great at creating controversy and she’s proved it a few different times by dropping “Paige bombs” on the mic. If WWE wants to get more people talking about their recently rebooted women’s division, it would do them a lot of good to turn Paige heel, give her a mic, and let her do some talking as well.
#3 – Stardust/Cody Rhodes – Face
Stardust has been performing on WWE programming for almost 2 years now, and he’s been great. But people are drying to see Cody Rhodes return and it’s time for Cody to give the fans what they want. Stardust has had a good run and there’s no shame in putting him on the sidelines for a while.
People miss just plain old Cody Rhodes, and if he decides to drop the war paint and the contact lenses for a while, he’s going to get a massive pop when he returns.
#2 – Dolph Ziggler – Heel
Dolph Ziggler has been a good guy for years now and he’s long overdue for a change. Watching Dolph play the underdog getting beat up by the heel week in and week out has just run its course. Dolph is a great performer and eventually it would be great to see him as the one dishing out the beatings instead of taking them.
As a heel Dolph Ziggler won the World Heavyweight Championship twice and he even managed to wiggle his way into high profile feuds with the likes of CM Punk, Edge and John Cena. Unfortunately Dolph Ziggler seems to be a long way away from the main event scene right now, but a change of character could be just what he needs to get himself back on top.
#1 – Big Show – Heel
Just kidding!
#1 – Roman Reigns – Heel, or just anything other than what he’s been doing…
It’s been said over and over and over and over again, if the fans are going to boo Roman Reigns, just give them a reason to boo. It’s not only the fans who are calling for a Roman heel turn either, Hall of Famers such as Jim Ross, Steve Austin and even Roman’s cousin Rikishi have said that he’d be better of as a heel at this point.
WWE showed hints of a character change Monday on Raw when Roman told the crowd, “I’m not a good guy. I’m not a bad guy. I’m the guy.” It remains to be seen if that was just a throwaway line or they’re actually trying to push his character in a different direction. Either way, this whole experience of the fans rejecting Roman has been painful to watch. It’s been painful for his supporters, it’s been painful for his haters and it probably hasn’t been that much fun for Roman himself.
WWE insists that Roman Reigns is the new top guy, and they can have their cake and eat it too. They just have to meet the fans half way and give everyone a character worth watching.
