WWE has come up with some awesome gimmick matches over the years, but there’s also been a good amount of stinkers. Coming up with new concepts for matches can be difficult and you never truly know if something works until you give it a try. Some gimmick matches work out and some gimmick matches don’t.

These are 5 of the most infamous gimmick matches in WWE history that fans wish they could erase from their memory.

#5 – Anything Involving WWE Divas And Food

WWE has cleaned up their act quite a bit in the last few years but back in the day women were blatantly presented to the audience as sex objects. Divas were often placed in matches that for some reason involved them wrestling in a pool filled with a liquid food item such as eggnog, gravy or pudding.

Don’t get us wrong, watching beautiful women get wet as they wrestle each other can certainly be entertaining. But when you add food into the mix it just gets weird.

#4 – Good Housekeeping Match

Chyna vs. Jeff Jarrett by newday18

Back in 1999 Chyna was involved in a feud with Jeff Jarrett over the Intercontinental Championship. Naturally Jarrett’s angle was to play off of the fact that Chyna was a woman and that he didn’t feel like she belonged in the division. Out of this animosity the “Good Housekeeping” match was born.

It was basically a hardcore match with sexist weapons such as a hamper and an ironing board. Chyna facing off against men was a bold move by the WWE but this match did nothing to help her case.

#3 – Kiss My Foot Match

Remember when Vince McMahon thought it was a good idea to make Michael Cole the number 1 heel in WWE? Right, how could you forget. Cole’s heel antics reached their peak during his feud with Jerry Lawler which culminated in a WrestleMania match then a follow up “Kiss My Foot” match at Over The Limit in 2011.

It went about as well as you would think a match between Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler would go. This match could be considered a low point for wrestling in general, but a high point as far as product placements for JR’s BBQ Sauce go.

#2 – Punjabi Prison Match

There was a time when WWE was intent on making The Great Khali a monster heel and they even went as far as to name a match in his honor. During The Great Khali’s big push the Punjabi Prison Match was born and everyone wished that it hadn’t been.

The match consisted of two cages made of bamboo, because of reasons. The first cage had doors which could be opened by referees by only for sixty seconds. If no one could make it out of the door within sixty seconds it was then locked. If all of the doors were locked then the only way out of the first cage was to climb and then once you reached the second cage you had to climb out of that one as well.

The WWE tried to sell fans on the fact that this match was dangerous but it was more awkward than anything. The Undertaker and Big Show managed to do what they could with it but like we said before, it was awkward. Batista and The Great Khali later faced off in this match and as you can imagine, Great Khali and climbing don’t mix well. The concept was eventually scrapped and after this sentence is finished we hope to never speak of it again.

#1 – Kennel From Hell Match

Al Snow vs Big Boss Man (Unforgiven – Kennel… by Rene-y2j-Madsen

When people bring up the silliest moments from The Attitude Era, they often reference the fact that Big Boss Man made Al Snow eat his own dog. If that sounds ridiculous as you read it to yourself we can guarantee that it came off just as ridiculous on screen. Al Snow and Big Boss Man had been in a rivalry that led to Boss Man stealing Snow’s dog. He later made Al Snow a meal as a friendly gesture and during the meal he served Al’s dog, Pepper, to him. Yup that happened.

The match consisted of a cage around the ring which was surrounded by a bigger cage used for Hell in a Cell matches with rabid dogs in between. The goal was to escape both cages without being eaten alive by the dogs which Al Snow did. Fans rejoiced when this one was over.

  1. I don’t know, I think that Kiss Me Arse match between Dolf and Sheamus made me feel more awkward than anything.
