After months of rumors and speculation, WWE announced yesterday that they’ve signed Austin Aries. Aries made his NXT debut at Friday’s tapings from the CFE Arena in Florida. Aries was introduced by William Regal and then attacked by Baron Corbin. It looks like Aries will be feuding with Baron Corbin going forward and there’s quite a few other people we would like to see him feud with as well.
Here are 5 NXT Superstars we want to see Austin Aries face off against now that he’s joined the roster.
#5 – Apollo Crews
Apollo Crews is a confident rising star in NXT and Austin Aries is an established, cocky veteran. When these two personalities finally clash it’s going to be fun. If these two can get some mic time we would be in for some entertaining segments and the in ring competition could be must see TV.
Apollo Crews and Austin Aries are both extremely agile so one has to imagine that this match would have a quick pace. But both men are strong as well despite their size difference so you should expect a few surprises if these two face off. An Aries vs Crews match would no doubt have great action and the showmanship that both guys display that would make this a memorable contest.
#4 – Samoa Joe
Sure, we’ve seen Joe vs Aries before in TNA and ROH, but seeing these two clash once again in NXT would make for a great moment. Both men have traveled a very similar path to NXT and they certainly deserve to be there.
Joe and Aries becoming part of the NXT roster is a true testament to how talented they are. Not only did they join one of the hottest brands in all of professional wrestling at the moment, they were able to come over and keep the names they’ve been using for years. When we finally get to see Samoa Joe and Austin Aries clash in a NXT ring, it’s going to be a moment that showcases just how far Samoa Joe, Austin Aries have come.
#3 – Hideo Itami
Hideo Itami will hopefully be returning to action soon and when he does Austin Aries will be waiting for him. This is a match that definitely has the potential to tear the house down. Hideo Itami can get aggressive at times and aggression is something that Austin Aries brings to the table as well. A face off between these two in NXT has instant classic written all over it
The pace would no doubt be quick between these two which is why a 2 out of 3 falls match or an Iron Man match would be a perfect fit for an Itami/Aries rivalry. These guys could put on a clinic with 10 to 15 minutes, so imagine what they could do with 25 to 30.
#2 – Sami Zayn
When it comes to Sami Zayn and Austin Aries there’s nothing they won’t do to please the fans. Both guys have been known to take things to the next level and there’s no doubt that they would push each other to the limit if they face off in NXT.
Sami Zayn has been dying to get the NXT Championship back and Austin Aries will likely have his sights set on the belt in no time at all. A feud between Zayn and Aries to determine the number 1 contender for the NXT Title could be big for NXT. The stakes would be high, the action would be stellar and it would definitely get people talking.
#1 – Finn Balor
Finn Balor is the current face of NXT and that’s a position that Austin Aries would probably like to take for himself. It won’t take long for Aries to build up momentum in NXT and one has to imagine that he’ll try and use that momentum to challenge for the NXT Championship as soon as possible. Finn Balor has made a great NXT Champion so far, but Austin Aries might just be the right man to take the belt from him.
Aries proved in 2012 when he won the TNA World Title that he’s definitely World Championship material, despite the fact that the company dropped the ball on his push. Balor has been having a great run as NXT Champion, so a victory over Balor for Austin Aries could do a lot to establish Aries as a top star in NXT. Finn Balor is going to have to drop the belt sooner than later. Who better to drop it to than Austin Aries?
