The Undertaker’s streak is for lack of a better word epic. The fact that he’s gone 20 plus years undefeated at WrestleMania is truly an accomplishment. Sure professional wrestling is a sport where the outcomes of the matches are predetermined but most guys don’t last more than a few years on the main roster in WWE let alone go undefeated more than 20 times at the biggest event in the industry.
Some fans complain about the fact that The Undertaker usually only wrestles at WrestleMania but it’s almost always the best match on the card and as far as we’re concerned, he doesn’t owe us anything more. The truth is with the shape Taker is in nowadays we’re lucky we get that one match a year and it will be a sad day when this professional wrestling icon retires.
With that being said, he’s not retired yet and there’s still some gas left in the tank. No one knows how much longer The Undertaker will wrestle for but if he sticks around until WrestleMania 34 he can get a nice even 25 wins under his belt. The fact of the matter is there are still a few big money matches left for the streak and here are the ones we want to see the most.
3. Sting
People say that Sting and The Undertaker are too old to put on a great match with each other but we simply don’t buy it. Like we said during the introduction, The Undertaker may be getting up there in age but more often than not he puts on the best match at WrestleMania. The truth is no matter how limited his in ring ability may become it’s about the story he’s able to tell.
Looking at some of the greatest WrestleMania showdowns it’s obvious that sometimes the spectacle outweighs the technical aspect and how the match is presented means everything. Hulk Hogan Vs. The Rock from a technical standpoint wasn’t really all that great of a match but over a decade later people still talk about it because it told the right story. The Undertaker Vs. Sting would be a similar situation where the match could be built up so well that the actual match itself would be glorified no matter what.
The Undertaker Vs. Sting has been and will be a dream match until it happens no matter how old these two get. We may never see this epic confrontation, but at this point, it looks more likely than it ever has before.
2. Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle hasn’t been shy about the fact that he’s strongly considering a WWE return when his TNA contract ends in September. Kurt Angle stated not too long ago in this interview HERE that he has a desire to return to the company which made him a star and you’d have to be crazy to think WWE wouldn’t welcome him back with open arms. Kurt Angle is a machine and seeing him take on the streak would be a great opportunity for WWE to make us believe there’s a chance it could be broken.
The Undertaker and Kurt Angle always had great matches together but seeing Angle challenge the streak would truly be something special. Anyone who says Kurt Angle can’t go in the ring anymore simply hasn’t been paying attention to his most recent matches. There’s no doubt he could push The Undertaker to the limit and give us all a match for the ages.
When it comes to legendary matches and The Undertaker’s streak, this one has the potential to be just as good as The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25.
1. John Cena
This is perhaps the biggest money match that WWE still has in their back pocket and there’s no doubt that they’re waiting for the right moment to cash in. The Undertaker is presented by WWE as being superhuman and love him or hate him, the same can be said about John Cena. John Cena has been pushed as indestructible for the past 10 years and this match would have fans all around the world hanging on every move.
John Cena Vs. The Undertaker on the grandest stage of them all isn’t just a WrestleMania main event, it’s one of the biggest matches of all time. If he challenged The Undertaker’s streak John Cena would generate massive amounts of heat due to the fact that people would be afraid he might break it. The volume of the boos Cena would receive if he goes up against The Undertaker at WrestleMania would be deafening.
When The Undertaker decides to call it a day for good, this is the match he will most likely end his career on. If there was ever a match that WWE could use to convince us that the streak was in danger of being broken, this is that match.
