10 Wrestling Dream Matches That Will Most Likely Never Happen

Wrestling dream matches are few and far between at this point due to the fact that many of them have happened already.

Still, there are more than a handful of wrestling dream matches that should have happened at some point, but didn’t and could easily generate a big interest from the fans if they happened today.

All of the matches on this list with the exception of number 10 could technically happen but as the title of the article implies it’s highly unlikely that any of them will. Let’s take a look at 10 wrestling dream matches that would make us mark out and scream at the top of our lungs like little girls if they were to happen.

10. Samoa Joe VS Taz

First and foremost, let’s just get this out of the way, this is one of those wrestling dream matches that definitely won’t happen. Taz has been retired from in ring action for years now and if there was ever a chance of him returning it would have been teased by now.

Taz may not seem all that intimidating nowadays but make no mistake about it, back in his heyday Taz was a force to be reckoned with. It’s a shame that the current generation of wrestling fans will never get the opportunity to experience first hand just how scary Taz truly was back in the day.

Samoa Joe will never face off against Taz but had Samoa Joe come along 10 years earlier, there’s no doubt that this would have been a huge money match. Samoa Joe is extremely versatile when it comes to in ring style and these two would have matched up perfectly in every way.

9. Steve Austin VS Goldberg

The ship has long since sailed on this wrestling dream match. Neither one of these guys is currently active and although rumors of these two returning to the ring for one last match happen all the time, nothing ever comes of it. This is one of those cases where these two just missed each other as Steve Austin retired from in ring competition shortly before Goldberg arrived in WWE.

Steve Austin was without a doubt WWE’s MVP in the late 90s/early 2000s and the same can be said about Goldberg in WCW. These two were the driving forces behind their respective companies during that time period and this dream match was talked about by the fans all the time back in the day.

It’s safe to say that this one most likely won’t happen but due to the fact that this is the wrestling business you can never say never. Goldberg did say in a recent interview that if he ever did return Steve Austin is on the list of people he would like to face. It could happen, but it’s highly unlikely.

8. John Cena VS Hulk Hogan

When it comes to wrestling dream matches, John Cena and Hulk Hogan are absolutely perfect for each other. John Cena is the PG era answer to Hulkamania and seeing these two face off against each other would be entertaining as hell.

Go ahead and talk all the shit you want but the fact of the matter is that John Cena can put on a good match with just about anyone. This one wouldn’t have to be technical by any means because the attraction of this match is the fact that that these two are huge names.

If John Cena was a big name like he is now 10 years ago then there’s no doubt this match would have happened but Hulk Hogan is way over the hill (like WAY over) and the odds that this match could actually happen are slim to none.

7. Steve Austin VS Hulk Hogan

It’s a shame that these two couldn’t manage to work together because seeing the face of The Attitude Era go toe to toe with the face of The Golden Era would have been a huge moment for wrestling fans of all ages.

We got Hulk Hogan VS The Rock which was one of the best wrestling dream matches, but we wanted Steve Austin VS Hulk Hogan as well. It could be argued about forever as to who had the bigger impact on profession wrestling, Steve Austin or Hulk Hogan and this match would have been a great way for WWE to cash in on that debate.

6. Steve Austin VS Brock Lesnar

When it comes to wrestling dream matches, this is another match that very well could happen but most likely won’t. As we stated before Steve Austin teases that he may return to the ring often but he never pulls the trigger. WWE obviously wanted this match to happen years ago but it’s been well documented that when presented with the idea Steve Austin took his ball and went home.

Steve Austin has said on many occasions that he regrets his decision when it comes to taking his ball and going home. WWE however wanted to give this match away with no hype on an episode of RAW and you can’t really blame Steve for arguing that it was a huge money match which deserved to be on PPV. This match would have done huge buys for a PPV event and booking it on free TV would have been a terrible decision by WWE.

The closest we will most likely ever come to this is Steve Austin giving the stunner to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20. However it can’t be ignored that Brock Lesnar is still in great shape and Steve Austin has said many times that he could return to the ring for the right match.

5. The Rock VS Shawn Michaels

The Rock is a huge Hollywood superstar nowadays and Shawn Michaels is retired so the odds of this one happening are pretty slim. These superstars were two of the biggest faces of The Attitude Era and it’s painful to think that really, they just missed each other. Shawn Michaels was on his way out as The Rock was on his way up and if Shawn hadn’t taken a break from wrestling due to his back injury this definitely would have happened.

The Rock could obviously return any time he wants and although he may not be as well conditioned for in ring competition as he was in his prime he can still get the job done. The same can be said about Shawn Michaels. He may be older and he may be retired but if he were to return there’s no doubt that he would steal the show on any card he appears on. We do however believe that unlike most wrestlers who walk away, Shawn is retired for good. This is the wrestling business though so you can never say never.

4. Daniel Bryan VS Shawn Michaels

It’s been said a million times already in this article, but in theory, this one could happen. This match has the perfect storyline built in with the whole student VS teacher angle.

Daniel Bryan is the hottest thing going in wrestling right now and it could be argued that guys like Shawn Michaels really paved the way for guys like Daniel Bryan. Both of them were small guys who broke through into the main event and so much of what Daniel Bryan does in the ring is reminiscent of what Shawn Michaels used to do.

Daniel Bryan is at the top of his game and Shawn Michaels is always at the top of his game which is what would make this match a big deal. WWE has already planted the seed for this one but Shawn Michaels seems pretty serious about staying retired forever.

3. The Undertaker VS Sting

It’s WrestleMania season and rumors of this match are once again circulating at an all time high. Many wrestling fans will say it isn’t worth it at this point due to the fact that if it happened now it would be 10 years too late but we disagree.

Every year at WrestleMania The Undertaker manages to steal the show, and more often than not Sting can still put on a great match. If this ever did happen it would most likely be a last hurrah for both superstars so one could assume that both would give it their all.

Although Sting and The Undertaker are both past their prime, they still have a lot to offer to the wrestling business, and there would be no better way to offer up all they have left to give than in a match against each other.

2. Daniel Bryan VS Kurt Angle

Is there really a more perfect dream match that could happen in the wrestling business today? Daniel Bryan is at the top of his game and despite what some smarks might try to make you think, Kurt Angle is just as good right now as he’s ever been.

Daniel Bryan and Kurt Angle are two of the most gifted technical wrestlers of all time and this match would be worth the price of a PPV based on the counters alone. Kurt Angle would have an answer for any move Daniel Bryan attempted to pull out and vice versa.

These two are a perfect match and if you’re asking us for our personal opinion, we truly believe that Kurt Angle will return to WWE before he retires. Whether or not this match will happen if Kurt does return to WWE remains to be seen, but if Kurt does manage to make his way back to the company that made him a star, WWE would be stupid not to book it.

1. CM Punk VS Steve Austin

This one has been teased before on WWE programming and we’ve all been holding our breaths hoping it might happen at some point. Steve Austin and CM Punk are truly meant for each other. The alcoholic VS the straight edge superstar is a match that pretty much books itself.

These two are polar opposites when it comes to their lifestyle but they’re remarkably similar when it comes to their philosophies. Many have pegged CM Punk as the Steve Austin of this generation and although it could be argued as to how accurate that comparison is, no wrestling fan can ignore the similarities between the two.

There’s no doubt that this feud would be great in the ring but we’re sure we aren’t alone when we say that we’re dying to see what the promos would be like in an extended program for these two. This one may never happen, but it COULD happen which is enough for us to continue holding our breaths until we physically just can’t do it anymore.
