10 Incredible Facts About Survivor Series

Survivor Series is now merely days away, and this year WWE will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the annual event.

This year’s show is loaded with the highly anticipated Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar rematch, and three separate traditional Survivor Series matches which will see Raw go head to head with SmackDown. There have been many classic Survivor Series matches over the years, but just how much do you know about the pay-per-view?

Here are 10 astonishing Survivor Series facts for you to learn and show off to your friends.

10. Shawn Michaels Has Competed In The Most Traditional Survivor Series Matches

Mr WrestleMania himself has competed in the most traditional Survivor Series matches over his career, with 11. He has appeared at the event 17 times which means that he has appeared at Survivor Series six times and not been involved in the annual bragging rights match.

9. There Have Been 78 Traditional Survivor Series Matches

Since Survivor Series was unveiled back in 1987 there have been an astonishing 78 different traditional elimination matches at the event. That means that there have been more than two of these kinds of matches at every event, with some years being like the current one and shockingly announcing three.

8. Survivor Series Has Beaten WrestleMania’s Attendance Record Three Times

Every WWE fan is aware that Survivor Series is one of the Big Four pay-per-views that WWE presents every year, but it is the only one of the big four to have never taken place in a stadium, but it has been able to beat WrestleMania’s attendance record three times. In 1991 when Undertaker versus Hulk Hogan was the main event and in 1997 and 1998 when Survivor Series meant a lot more that it has in the past few years. It can be argued that WrestleMania was booked in smaller venues during this time period, but why did WWE gamble on Survivor Series over WrestleMania then?

7. Undertaker Holds His Own Record At The Event

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Undertaker is tied for the most appearances at the event with Shawn Michaels at 17, but The Undertaker does have the most wins at the November based pay-per-view with a record of 12 victories and five defeats. Michaels, on the other hand, has the most defeats on record having been on the losing end ten times and only managing to pick up the victory seven times.

6. Two Superstars Have Been Sole Survivors Three Times

The traditional Survivor Series match always has survivors and they are usually the ones that the WWE Universe remember. At the 2014 Survivor Series it was Dolph Ziggler who was the remaining Survivor for his team, but in history, only two superstars have been a sole survivor three times and they are Randy Orton and Ultimate Warrior. Could Orton make it for a fourth time this weekend?

5. 146 Superstars Have Been Survivors Of The Elimination Match

Of the 660 Superstars who have competed in the traditional Elimination Match at Survivor Series over the past 30 years, just 146 have survived. That is a win percentage of just 22.1%. What does this mean for the men, women and tag teams heading into their matches this Sunday?

4. Randy Orton Holds The Overall Elimination Record

Having been an integral part of WWE now for more than a decade, it seems that Survivor Series has been quite an event for Randy Orton over the past few years. Not only is he one of the two superstars to have been a sole survivor three times, but Orton also holds the overall elimination record having amassed 13 eliminations over the past 14 years.

3. Second Women’s Traditional Elimination Match

Even though this is technically the third time the women have been involved in an Elimination Match at Survivor Series, this is only the second time that it has been five-on-five since the Total Divas vs. True Divas match was seven-on-seven back in 2013. The first one took place back in 2008, and saw Team Raw walk out victorious. Is this a sign of things to come for Team SmackDown on Sunday night?

2. Roman Reigns and Aja Kong Hold The Elimination Match Record

Much like the Royal Rumble elimination record, Roman Reigns also tied the record for Survivor Series eliminations in one match back in 2013 when he eliminated four men from the match. Aja Kong set this record back in 1995 and as of yet, no one has managed to eliminate a full team and break the record completely. Could Roman Reigns go one step further this weekend?

1. If You’re Going To Debut, Do It At Survivor Series!

A lot was made about the fact that Undertaker was celebrating 25 years in WWE at Survivor Series last year, but the likes of Kurt Angle, Sting, The Rock, The Shield, Jazz and The Gobbledy Gooker all made their debuts at Survivor Series as well. With many rumours going around suggesting that Samoa Joe could make his debut this year, will he be the latest name to be added to this long list of impressive debuts?
