Let’s be honest, WWE doesn’t exactly have a great history when it comes to women’s matches at WrestleMania. Ashley versus Melina was the one chosen for WrestleMania 23 whilst WrestleMania 29 failed to have any females on the card.

Lats year WWE seemingly broke this trend when Charlotte faced both Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks in a triple threat match at last years ‘Showcase of the Immortals’ in what was considered to have been the best female matches to ever take place at WrestleMania.

This means that in true WWE style, the company need to top it for this year. The current plans regarding the women seem to once again be looking towards multi-person matches. The Raw Women’s Championship looks set to be defended in a Fatal-Four Way match between Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Bayley and current Champion Charlotte. Even though plans a few weeks ago were for Bayley to face Charlotte one-on-one and finally defeat the woman who has been provoking her for the past few months.

Plans obviously change, and this latest plan would allow more women on the card, especially since the SmackDown women are also looking for a place on the card.

It seems that there are a lot of theories floating around about the SmackDown Women’s Championship, with many fans thinking that Mickie James would be put in her first one-on-one match for the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania since her epic match with Trish Stratus more than ten years ago.

It was thought that Mickie would go one-on-one with Becky Lynch if The Lasskicker wins the title back from current Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss. But it seems that WWE doesn’t want it to be that straight forward.

WWE officials have been very impressed with Nikki Bella since her return at SummerSlam last year and the fact that she’s been able to make her feud with Natalya personal. Officials want to put Nikki in a match with Becky Lynch for the Women’s Championship instead because they think she deserves it, which means that there could actually be two female multi-person matches on the card this year.

It’s possible that the match could instead see Becky Lynch defend against Nikki Bella and Alexa Bliss, who has also impressed WWE with her recent work since she was promoted from NXT.

Mickie James could easily be added to the match as well so that both the Raw and SmackDown titles are defended in Fatal-Four-Way matches. The WWE Universe will definitely want matches that will be worthy of the big event, and putting more women in the match doesn’t necessarily mean that these matches will be a step above last year.

Fans will be happy that females are finally being given that chance that they have talked about for so long because there will be two women’s matches on a WrestleMania card for the first time in a number of years. It will also be the first time in history that two female titles have been defended at WrestleMania.

WWE officials are finally realising that they have strength in depth when it comes to their women. Not only are there some incredibly talented women on the main roster, but there are also some women down in NXT that will be coming up to either Raw or SmackDown following this year’s WrestleMania.

It is a headache that WWE will be happy that they are having, as they have so many women who are worthy of the spot at WrestleMania this year that they want to make the matches much bigger so that they can include them all.

This is a far cry from past WrestleManias where the Women’s Title wasn’t defended and the women were completely forgotten. So, this is a step in the right direction. Regardless of which match WWE choose to represent either brand, the women on both rosters have what it takes to steal the show if they are given the opportunity.

WrestleMania 33 hasn’t fully begun to build yet, and the Road To WrestleMania doesn’t begin for another week, but the speculation has already begun and a lot of the rumours are making this year’s event already look like it could easily top WrestleMania 32, in terms of both shock value and match entertainment levels.

  1. Has WWE been watching the same feud I have? If I remember correctly, Nattie was the one that made it personal. Why is she not getting a title shot? And they must not be too impressed with Nikki. She hasn’t had a match on SD since her feud with Carmella ended. That doesn’t exactly scream that they have confidence in her.
