Sami Zayn is a former NXT Champion. He had one of the best feuds in NXT history with Kevin Owens over that title and WWE then attempted to recreate that on the main roster. Zayn is the kind of superstar who can have a main event match with a broomstick, but WWE is not giving The Underdog From The Underground anything to work with lately.

Over the past few weeks Zayn has been brutally beaten by Braun Strowman as a way to make the Monster Among Men look that much stronger, but what about the effect it’s having on Zayn?

Sami may have won their match by technicality at Roadblock: End of the Line, but it seems that that was the last time Zayn was able to say that he did win a match. This past week on Raw he was made to look even worse when he tried to fanboy with the former members of The Shield, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins backstage before he was the one who cost them the win when he was pinned by Braun Strowman.

There doesn’t seem to be any future in this feud for Sami Zayn, WWE officials are obviously building Strowman up for a match against either Roman Reigns, Goldberg or The Undertaker, so there is no way that they are going to allow Sami Zayn to defeat him if they want him to be credible against any of those stars.

This means that much like Dean Ambrose when he was feuding with Bray Wyatt ahead of his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31, Ambrose was defeated every time and made to look like one of the weakest former members of The Shield. This was just to keep Bray looking strong ahead of his showdown with The Deadman.

Zayn had already proved how great he was and had had many standout matches on Raw before the brand split, since then it has seemed as though Zayn was drafted over to the wrong brand because even WWE doesn’t seem to have any concrete future plans for the former NXT star.

A heel turn could help Zayn if much like Ziggler, WWE play on his frustrations and allow him to then take it out on all the people who have tried to help him. Zayn is a likable person and he is popular with the WWE Universe so it won’t be easy to turn him heel, but if Ziggler can manage it, then there should be no reason why Zayn can’t.

The bonus of having Zayn as a heel would be that there are so many more face stars that he is yet to face on the main roster, so he would definitely have some decent feuds in the future. Also, if Owens and Zayn are both heels then there is nothing stopping them from becoming friends again after Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens finish up their rumoured rivalry.

A turn would definitely give WWE many more options, there are only so many times a man can be beaten down and still remain positive. Sami is the kind of man who would react to this and to hit out through frustration would be a natural reaction.

Zayn needs a feud he can really get his teeth into, he needs an opponent that he can actually defeat instead of being thrown around the ring and defeated on a weekly basis. Zayn and Strowman are not a fair match and there was only ever going to be one winner.

The Royal Rumble is merely a week away and given that Zayn made his return to WWE at last year’s Rumble, there are many fans who would love to see him go one better and win it this year.

Sami Zayn hasn’t yet been announced as a participant in the Royal Rumble match, despite the fact that 18 men have already declared that they will be taking part in the match. Sami needs to be in the match if he has any hopes of beginning a feud heading into WrestleMania season.

Zayn can’t be used to make up the numbers in the ladder match this year since the Intercontinental Championship is on SmackDown, so it will make booking much harder for WWE when it comes to the Raw roster.

We are officially on the Road to WrestleMania next Sunday night and Sami Zayn deserves to be given a decent push as a face or a heel ahead of the event.
