corey graves

WWE is protecting their relationship with Saudi Arabia in a pretty big way and who could blame them? After all, there is a ton of money as part of that deal and WWE doesn’t want to risk losing any of it. But it looks like Corey Graves could have landed himself in some hot water after comments he made could have been interpreted as being negative about Saudi Arabia.

In all reality, what Graves sent out via social media wasn’t awful. But it also didn’t show Saudi Arabia in the best light. If anything it might be looked at as how appreciative The Savior Of Misbehavior is to be a citizen of the USA. But it wasn’t received too well in the context that he sent this message out.

Graves sent out a message on Instagram showing an alcoholic drink he was enjoying with text saying: “A drink to remember that no matter how bad WE think we have it, at least our women have rights and we all have freedom of expression.”

This was an obvious comment about the strict culture of Saudi Arabia which limits a lot of self-expression and pretty much hinders any kind of freedom for women. Of course, Saudi Arabia has been making some progress like letting women vote and drive but there is also a long road ahead if they want to achieve total gender equality.

It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter how this comment was the one social media message where you could “read between the lines” and there is some backstage heat on him for this post.

Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into another situation where someone isn’t invited back to Saudi Arabia because Corey Graves could be needed if WWE wants to broadcast another special from the Middle East in November. But Graves has never been one to keep anything to himself and this seems to just be another great example of that.
