WWE’s Biggest Part Of The Summer is coming at us fast, but before they worry about that there’s a Battleground to deal with. WWE’s Battleground PPV is looking to be a pretty good show with a couple interesting stipulation matches, to say the least.

It all goes down on July 23rd and while some matches are sure to be added to the show, the ones WWE has announced are looking good so far.

Jinder Mahal vs Randy Orton (WWE Championship Punjabi Prison Match)

It’s time for the Punjabi Prison Match! It finally happened! WWE gave us the third edition of this infamous gimmick match. They just had to wait until there was an Indian as Champion for it to make sense.

Randy Orton has been trying to avenge his family’s honor since Jinder Mahal’s boys jumped his father at Money In The Bank. It doesn’t look like he’ll be letting up until he gets the title from Mahal too.

But to be honest, The Modern Day Maharaja has been making a great champion. He hasn’t been heavily featured on the show as he’s just relegated to one special segment. But if you look over on the red brand that’s the same thing they’re doing with Brock Lesnar. At least Jinder Mahal’s on SmackDown Live every week.

Randy doesn’t need this title win, to be honest, and Jinder seems to still have more gas left in the tank as champion. If Mahal can hold the WWE Championship a little longer he will solidify his position on the top of the card. At this point, Jinder might hold the title until SummerSlam but unless Vince loses faith in Mahal he could very well be carrying that title into WrestleMania.

John Cena vs Rusev (Flag Match)

John Cena vs Rusev just for the heck of it sounds like a fine deal to us. They need to have someone for Rusev to go over as he makes his return from injury and there’s no better person to do that than John Cena. Plus this Flag Match gimmick means all Rusev has to do to win is grab a flag so Cena can lose this match without getting pinned. It sounds like a win/win there.

Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles (United States Championship Match)

This one is a toss-up because Kevin Owens has been doing great with his New Face Of America gimmick but AJ Styles needs to do something. If AJ Styles loses this match it would be a pretty safe bet these two will battle again and it will probably be at SummerSlam unless Shinsuke Nakamura gets involved to make this feud really interesting. But it still wouldn’t be surpsiring to see AJ Styles pull down the gold at Battleground.

The Usos vs The New Day (SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match)

The rap battle was so epic it had to be edited and it’s hard to deny it is fun to see these two teams work together. Usos might be dropping the SmackDown Tag Team Championships to New Day here. But if the Usos do retain there are plenty of babyface tag teams who would love to challenge them next.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin and Mike Kanellis vs Sami Zayn have also been teased for this show but they haven’t been announced yet. It is probably a safe bet that a SmackDown Women’s Title match could be booked too.

There’s still plenty of room to grow, but WWE Battleground is shaping up to be a pretty good looking show at this point.
