It was recently reported that Brian “Road Dogg” James is no longer the co-lead writer for SmackDown Live, and now it seems that he’ll be taking on a new role with WWE.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that the former Intercontinental Champion is not leaving the company

It’s being said that it was a mutual decision for James to vacate his position on SmackDown with the move to FOX coming in October, and not necessarily him “stepping down.”

WWE is keeping his position flexible, and he’s going to be used as a utility player until they figure out where he will fit best moving forward.

One source noted that it’s possible Road Dogg will end up filling the position Arn Anderson once held at live events, or he may even work as a commentator.

It was also noted that the move was something all parties involved thought was best, and it wasn’t a contentious decision.

At this point there’s no word on who will be replacing Road Dogg.
