The WWE Women’s Evolution was something special that seemed to happen right in front of our eyes in Vince McMahon Land. But the truth is that a great part of it was kickstarted by the numbers Ronda Rousey pulled in for the UFC.

WWE likes to tell a different story about the Women’s Evolution sometimes starting with Paige vs Emma at NXT TakeOver: Arrival. Now it looks like we’ll know WWE’s official canon soon enough because they’re about to drop a special on the subject.

“I don’t wanna judge before it comes out but WWE is putting together a documentary on the Women’s Evolution/Revolution,” Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live. “If you’ve ever seen the Monday Night Wars documentary or any of the other documentaries where they’re gonna tell you their version of history. I can only imagine the version of history that’s gonna be told in this Women’s Evolution/Revolution documentary that’s coming up.”

Alvarez has a valid point because WWE does like to pick and choose heroes carefully when telling the story of their company. Where someone like Luna Vachon might deserve a much larger highlight, she might not be a huge part of WWE’s overall story. The same is true for Sunny because her recent life choices might not blend well with the family-friend company that WWE has evolved itself into.

It seems WWE might be easing up on Chyna in the last year seeing how her name popped up during Raw 25 and once more after Triple H said during the Steve Austin podcast that Chyna wasn’t going to be included in the WWE Hall Of Fame. Trips said he didn’t want his daughters Googling Chyna’s name one day and finding stuff like that She-Hulk thing she did.

But it’s also not fair to judge too early because WWE has impressed us before. Their work with the WWE 24 series on the WWE Network has been stellar so far so they very well could present a transparent retelling of women’s history in WWE. They could also tell the story like it was all Stephanie McMahon’s idea and it had nothing to do with the people who paved the way to get WWE’s Women’s Division where it is today. Only time will tell on that one, but it’s probably going to be entertaining either way.
