WrestleMania 32 has come and gone and WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin gave his thoughts on the show on the most recent episode of his podcast. He praised a lot of the show and put over the up and coming talents that worked hard to make the event what it was. But Austin was critical of the main event saying that he thought match went too long.

“It was way too long. That match should have been 15 minutes. I mean, from bell to bell, 15 minutes, and that being said, all the bells and whistles and action that needed to happen within that 15 minutes. And just, this is a deal where, okay, if it’s Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels and you’re out there, hey, give them 30 because they can go 30.

But here’s a case, and Triple H can go any amount of time you want him to go. But what needed to happen on this, just to make Roman, because if you’re going to let Roman go over clean in the middle of the ring, shine him up like a million bucks. Let him bounce Triple H all over kingdom come. Finally, let Triple H just get a frog’s hair of heat on him. And then boom, big finish, bam, 1-2-3. Make an impact with that match. Make an impact with the finish, and make a statement for the kid. It’s about getting this kid over and at least within the confines of the 20-by-20 ring.

You’re trying to make Roman Reigns. I don’t think you make him in a 28 minute chess match. This match needed to be all about excitement, explosion, and testosterone out of Roman and that’s how I think they should have booked it.”

Steve Austin was also critical of WWE’s decision to have Erick Rowan lose a match to The Rock in 6 seconds. Austin says he gave Rowan a pep talk the next night at Raw and told him not to let it bother him, because he was in a no win situation.

“After all that those guys have been through, whether it’s good booking or bad booking, he’s a guy on the road, to get beat in 6 seconds that didn’t do him any justice whatsoever. To me it happened so fast and it was like, what did it really accomplish? It didn’t do anything for The Rock, it certainly didn’t do anything for Rowan, so what’s the deal? I don’t think the match needed to happen. It was not of consequence. You beat the kid in 6 seconds, it was a complete work. I just didn’t think anybody needed to suffer a loss. If anything, build an angle, get some heat on him and then bring that back to Payback.”

  1. I am in near complete agreement with Stone Cold Steve Austin on this issue with the exception of Roman Reigns whom I do not think is ready for primetime as a main eventer or WWF Champion at at all because he is NOT the guy to lead the WWF into the future and that is a fact.
