There has been some good news to come out of Hollywood recently for WWE as The Rock has landed yet another DC comics movie role. It was announced some time ago that he would star in the upcoming DC comics film based on Shazam, and Deadline reports that he will also star in the second installment of the franchise which will be titled “Black Adam.” The Shazam story will be split into two separate films, and Dwayne Johnson is slated to reprise his role as Black Adam in both movies. “Shazam!” is expected to be released in 2019.

There is even more good news for WWE, as their newest WWE film production “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” has received some early favorable reviews.

The Chicago Tribune said that this film should be “a breath of fresh air” and appeal to many modern day Christian audiences. The Detroit Free Press said, “Here are three descriptors for a movie that you’d never expect to see placed together: “faith-based,” “comedy” and “produced by WWE Studios.” Somehow, “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” fits all three.”

The Fresno Bee said that the film is “a likable performance by Dalton and enough interesting supporting players to make it enjoyable despite there being no mystery in how this story will end.”

Although the newest WWE Films movie does have its detractors as the AV Club said, “Gavin Stone has trouble approximating the sensibility of actual entertainment and is particularly deadly as a comedy.” Light, wholesome comedies aren’t for everybody.

The Resurrection of Gavin Stone debuts in theaters tomorrow, and these early positive reviews are a very good thing for WWE Films as they attempt to branch out into every movie genre they can.

If anything, people should at least buy a ticket for this movie even if they plan on seeing something else once they go inside the theater. After all, the more often Shawn Michaels is in a movie the more often we can see him on Raw…even if he’s just plugging an upcoming film fans still get to see a superkick from HBK.
