Asuka retained her NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn this past weekend after she managed to defeat Ember Moon in one of the best women’s matches in NXT history.

It was reported following the match that The Empress of Tomorrow had suffered a collar bone injury and could be out of action for some time, and it seems that the injury could have forced WWE to make a shocking decision.

At last night’s NXT TV tapings, Asuka relinquished her NXT Women’s Championship and said farewell to the NXT locker room as all of the male and female superstars including Triple H and William Regal made their way out to the ring area in what was seen as an emotional exit for the Japanese star.

Asuka debuted in NXT back in September 2015 and has held the NXT Women’s Championship for 510 days (523 days by the time her farewell airs on September 6th) and walks away from NXT with her undefeated streak still intact.

WWE released the following statement on their website:

“After her dominant performance and historic 500-plus day reign as NXT Women’s Champion, The Empress of Tomorrow looks to her future for new opportunities in WWE, though no specific details are known at this time. Her reign will officially end on the date that her historic announcement airs.”

It is reported that Asuka has been negotiating with Daniel Bryan and Kurt Angle about a move to one of the main roster brands and it is thought that Asuka could play a big role in WWE’s upcoming Japanese tour. Although, Asuka will be out of action for six to eight weeks as she recovers from her collar bone injury.
