Two years ago Daniel Bryan was forced to retire from in-ring competition, and for two years he’s been trying to get cleared for an in-ring return. Bryan’s determination finally paid off when WWE announced on Tuesday that he has been cleared to return to the ring, and the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion kicked off this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.

Daniel Bryan kicked off the show and he talked about his long road to getting cleared. He thanked the doctors that work for WWE, the fans, and his wife. After his heartfelt speech Daniel Bryan said he would address Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn when they arrived at the arena, and he called them out to the ring at the end of the show.

Zayn and Owens both hugged Daniel Bryan after they got in the ring, and Owens said they weren’t even going to show up for SmackDown this week, but then they heard the news about Bryan getting cleared.

Sami Zayn said that Zayn, Owens and Bryan sounds like a dream team, but Bryan responded by saying that’s not why he called them to the ring, and he showed a clip of the vicious beating they gave Shane McMahon last week.

Bryan played up the seriousness of the beating, and said that he doesn’t get it. He then said that he hates to have to do this, but he fired Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

Daniel Bryan then extended his arm and offered to shake their hands. Both Zayn and Owens hook his hand, but then they turned on Bryan and attacked him.

Bryan fought back and the crowd went wild.

Eventually Zayn and Owens got the upper hand again, and Zayn took Bryan out with a Helluva Kick as referees surrounded the ring.

They brought Bryan to the outside, and then powerbombed him on the apron.

Daniel Bryan was placed on a stretcher and the fans chanted, “you’re still fired” as SmackDown went off the air.

Now that Daniel Bryan is once again an in-ring competitor, he seems to have a perfect excuse to team up with Shane McMahon to face Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 34.
