June 19th will definitely be a day that Dean Ambrose will remember for the rest of his life, not only did the former United States Champion defeat five other competitors to become Mr Money in the Bank, but he also became just the second person in history to cash in on the same night and win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Ambrose was the heavy favourite heading into the match so the win came as no surprise to many of the WWE Universe, but the cash in was one of the biggest shocks of the year.

Roman Reigns stepped up his game against Seth Rollins and the duo put on a fantastic main event worthy match before a countered pedigree allowed Seth Rollins to reclaim the Championship he never lost, but sadly his former brother decided to rain on his parade.

It was a shock that WWE allowed Rollins to capture the title from Reigns since it seemed that Roman was considered a hot commodity in WWE a few weeks ago, but the boos were ever present throughout the match as the fans were obviously backing Rollins throughout.

Rollins got a huge pop when he won and shockingly made history in his own way as he become the World Champion with the shortest title reign as it was made evident that his was significantly shorter than Roman’s infamous five minute 15 second reign from last year’s Survivor Series event.

The problem that WWE now face is the fact that there is no Money in the Bank briefcase holder for the rest of the year, they decided to roll the dice and use all of their options in the same night, so there will no longer be any teases of a cash in for the next 365 days.

When Kane cashed in on the same night in 2010 there were two Mr Money in the Banks, one for each show, which meant that The Miz still had the red briefcase that allowed him a shot at the WWE Championship for the next year.

Even though there are set to be two shows again in a months time, there are not two Mr Money in the Banks so WWE no longer have this option.

With the upcoming Brand Split it is entirely feasible that WWE have a bigger plan for Ambrose, but after how easily they brushed past Sheamus’s run as Mr Money in the Bank and his subsequent short title reign last year, it is possible that Dean could be handed a similar fortunes.

WWE have obviously set up the Triple Threat match between the three former members of The Shield now perfectly since all three superstars held the Championship at Money in the Bank so they all technically have a legitimate claim for a rematch.

The draft for the announced Brand Extension will take place on July 11th which means that if Ambrose is drafted over to Smackdown then he could take the title with him and Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins could remain on Raw and not be given their title shots at Battleground.

Whilst Money in the Bank became historic for many reasons this year, I think WWE made a big mistake by allowing Ambrose to cash in his case as soon as he had won it and perhaps he should have cashed in on Roman Reigns instead of Rollins since the two friends have had some tension between them lately.

It is hard to see how WWE will push this forward now without setting up a triple threat, unless this is WWE’s final blow out of a pay-per-view before the brand split so they are finally giving the fans what they want.

Raw could also see Ambrose drop the title back to either Reigns or Rollins so that isn’t completely out of the question, although WWE playing hot potato with the title last night shows that perhaps they will allow Ambrose to keep it for at least the next few weeks leading up the the draft just so that the title doesn’t lose any prestige.

Fans have wanted Dean Ambrose to be World Champion since The Shield split more than two years ago and now The Lunatic is finally running the Asylum, it’s Ambrose’s turn to prove that his is worthy of being the face of the company and that he can step up to the level that has already been determined by his former Shield team mates.

  1. You overlooked how he is the only member of the shield to hold all titles, not just a US champion. Good try though. Also, this was written way to quick. The draft is soon, who is to say they won’t do another match if they go with another title.

  2. Money in The Bank isn’t the only possible story line WWE can use all year. In fact, the whole looming MITB story line gets really old fast. I’m glad they got it out of the way.
