Daniel Bryan is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and the General Manager of SmackDown Live, but he’s currently not an active in-ring performer. Bryan was forced to retire in 2016 due to health issues, but he’s been cleared by doctors outside of WWE, and he’s doing everything he can to convince WWE officials to let him wrestle again.

Bryan’s WWE contract is up in September of 2018, and he’s noted that if WWE doesn’t clear him he may wrestle elsewhere. Sports Illustrated recently asked him who he would like to face if he does wrestle again, and he named AJ styles as a potential opponent in WWE.

“It depends on whether WWE clears me to wrestle,” said Bryan. “That will change my opponent. One of my favorite guys to watch at WWE is AJ Styles,” said Bryan. “So, on the WWE stage, I would like to wrestle AJ Styles, only because I wrestled John Cena before.”

Daniel Bryan got to wrestle some of the top names in the business while he was active in the ring, but he also noted that one star he really wanted to face was Shawn Michaels.

“I was really disappointed I never got to wrestle Shawn Michaels,” said Bryan. “He trained me and that was the one match I never got to have.”

Daniel Bryan’s in-ring future seems to be up in the air at the moment, but if WWE officials do at some point give him the green light to return, AJ Styles seems like a solid choice for his next opponent.
