Sunday night Carmella won the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, but her win was surrounded by controversy. Carmella didn’t actually grab the briefcase herself, James Ellsworth grabbed the briefcase, and after he threw the briefcase down to Carmella, she declared herself the first ever Miss Money in the Bank.

Daniel Bryan recently announced that he would be returning on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, and he made it clear that he had plans to address the controversial finish to the historic match. Bryan noted that the rules said the first woman to hold the briefcase would be the winner, but he also noted that he wasn’t happy about the fact that James Ellsworth interfered in one of the most important moments in women’s WWE history.

Bryan then announced that he was taking the briefcase, and next week on SmackDown Live, there will be a women’s Money in the Bank ladder match featuring Carmella, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Tamina and Natalya.

Bryan then walked off with the briefcase as all the women brawled inside the ring.
