jinder mahal

Jinder Mahal was forced to defend his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura with many of the WWE Universe considering Nakamura to be the heavy favorite to win the Championship heading into their showdown in Brooklyn at SummerSlam.

SportsKeeda is currently reporting that this was the original plan, Nakamura was set to defeat Mahal and Mr. Money in the Bank Baron Corbin was then going to cash in and win the WWE Championship to continue the feud with Nakamura that WWE had already laid all of the foundations for.

This is the reason why there wasn’t a lot of interaction between Mahal and Nakamura on WWE TV because Corbin’s cash in would have pushed him out of the title picture. But last Tuesday night WWE made the decision to scrap Baron’s championship push because of his conduct on Twitter, and instead forced him to drop his title opportunity in an almost comedic fashion that same night.

This meant that Mahal was set to retain his title via disqualification on Sunday night, that was until The New York Times published a piece on Mahal that received a lot of positive press for the champion so WWE decided to allow Mahal to win the match via pinfall instead.

If only Baron Corbin had restrained himself on Twitter, he would be on SmackDown Live as the WWE Champion right now but it seems a feud with AJ Styles over the United States Championship moving forward, isn’t a bad consolation prize.
