Everyone’s been talking about MJF and his issues with Tony Khan in recent weeks. On Wednesday night MJF gave fans plenty more to talk about when he cut a scathing promo bashing the AEW President.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the idea was to do a heel promo then cut his mic off half way through. The intention was to make it look unplanned and make it resemble Brian Pillman’s worked shoot promos.

Near the end of the promo MJF was wildly cheered by fans in attendance at the Kia Forum, specifically for talking about ex-WWE guys who can’t lace his boots. It’s being reported that this wasn’t the plan, and that the crowd cheering MJF made the promotion look uncool. Dave Meltzer compared the reaction MJF received to the NWO getting pops loud pops in WCW despite the fact that they were supposed to be heels.

After the promo CM Punk came down and chased MJF away as he left through the crowd during the commercial break. The CM Punk confrontation was reportedly part of the plan. Following the commercial break the announcers didn’t acknowledge the promo throughout the rest of the show.
